our purpose

     To be employed in a government agency is okay. If you’re looking for a stable job, it’s okay. Benefits are good; employee association has more power than most in the private institutions. A nice working environment, competitive salaries, well established protocols, seasoned employees, and solid core values. Well, the first two are on selected top agencies but you get the point right? Difference between private and Government Company is stability. Basically, the later is more stable.

     So, in choosing your career path you should be thinking of this too, career growth or stability? It’s difficult to be stuck in your position for five years or so and be happy if you’re looking for career growth. Jobs have its characteristics. Sometimes, when your boss is good, you get to experience work rotations. This way you would know how the whole system works and not just the assigned task for you. It would be quite boring doing the same task until you retire.

     Today there is a career fair within our company, part of a month long celebration of the company’s 60 year anniversary. Honestly, I lost faith in this kind of event/process of getting a promotion or career shift. Happiness for me is not dependent on salary anymore; it’s learning new things and improving. Given the nagging boss, unfair dissemination of work, and unreasonable deadlines; I just focus on the improvement of my skills. I learn to finish my job at once so that I can explore on how to know the company and become better employee.

     I once received an inspiring SMS about a drop of water.” If it fell on a lake, there is no identity. But if it falls on a leaf of lotus, it shines like a pearl.” The message; choose the best place where you would shine. I think this is partly true, it would really feel very exhausting swimming against the current. Being at the wrong place is such a burden, but sometimes focusing on your goal negates the challenge. A seed falls on a rocky plane and grows. Why don’t we.

One line of inspirational thought to start the day affirmatively. “God heals everything”.

It’s been more than a year since I blogged, mainly because of clogged schedule.. work and school tasks are pretty challenging come June to August. Then after, lost my drive to blog.

Anyway, many things have happened. Things get out of our hand, plans fail but God watches over us. And that’s a good thing. “God heals everything”. Sleepless nights, financial problems, stress are just spices of life. Thinking why you didn’t get the promotion you wanted? Then you became fed up, put-up your own business and be successful. Sometimes the reason is unclear, but if we put our trust in the Lord, no roadblock is too big to overcome.

Things mess up, people give us heartaches but in God’s way everything will fall into place right.

Jus this morning I received an email from my cousin regarding an article in the New York Times. The whole article was about him. How cool can that get!

Excuse me for the mood, but I’m just so bored and dull at work. I don’t seem to be happy in my worklife, unlike before. I don’t believe this phrase then, but as I continue to work under a management and a boss that doesn’t give weight in what I do, I feel my life pass by monotonously.

I know there is something better for me and I will get it. I will not stay long like this.

Today is my dad’s birthday.

Last Sunday night, my brother, my girlfriend and I was planning a surprise for my dad but my dad blew the surprise when he said to us last night that to go home early and we will eat outside. TSK! Just when we thought we, we are going to surprise him with our own treat for him on some fine dining.

Oh well, so we cope with the situation and just prepared a gift instead. I wish he would be happy still and somewhat lessen his sadness on my mom being not here.

Happy Birthday dad!  “I don’t know what your age anymore since you stopped counting yourself” You did a good job on molding two good sons. I promise we will always be here for you and mom.

I miss the days when work was like play.

     Nowadays, work have been a pain in the neck. Litereally and figuratively. Yes, I find joy in working but the order giver is such an a88wipe. Yesterday we have a dance showdown contest in the office. It was inter-department. Then there he was, ruining everybody’s day, form mornin till dawn he gives rush jobs. It’s like he hates it when someone, or everybody but him will have a good day, even just “a good time“

Discover the 90/10 Principle.

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.

We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? ……….By your reaction.

You cannot control a red light. But you can control your reaction. Don’t let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let’s use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.

What happens next will be determined by how you react.

You curse.

You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus.

Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? …. Because of how you reacted in the morning.

Why did you have a bad day?
A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?
The answer is “D”.
You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5
seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, “Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time”. Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why?

Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don’t be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don’t have to let the negative comment affect you!

React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off) Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive?

Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job.

Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take outpour frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on.

Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.
Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.
